DIRECTIONS TO SIMBAMBILI LODGE
Exit O.R. Tambo (Johannesburg) International Airport and follow the R21 highway towards Boksburg.
Where the R21 crosses the N12 highway towards eMalahleni (Witbank), continue on the N12. Just before eMalahleni (Witbank), the N12 joins the N4 highway. Continue on the N4 to Belfast (Johannesburg to Belfast: approx. 250km)
Turn right out of Belfast to go to Dullstroom (approx. 33km).
Continue through Dullstroom to Lydenburg (approx. 58km).
On entering the outskirts of the town of Lydenburg, you will need to turn left at the T-Junction.
There is one left and one right turn, (follow the direction signs) through Lydenburg to continue on to Ohrigstad.
The road leads direct to Ohrigstad (approx. 51km), from Lydenburg.
Continue with the Ohrigstad road over the mountains and through the J.G.Strydom Tunnel
(approx. 45km from Ohrigstad).
From the tunnel continue for a further 27km approximately, before turning right towards Orpen Road / Klaserie R531. You will see a sign board for Aventura Swadini at which point you should turn right.
You will pass Blyde Motors on your left just before you reach the above mentioned turn off – this is a good spot to fill up as it is the last garage on the way to Simbambili that accepts Garage Cards.
Continue along the Orpen/Klaserie road for about 32km until you reach a sign pointing left to the Orpen Gate and the the S.A Wildlife College.
Ignore and continue to Acornhoek.
* Do not turn left to go to Orpen or the SA Wildlife College; rather turn left at the traffic light at Acornhoek Plaza and follow the Djuma, Manyeleti, Simbambili, Elephant Plains, & Chitwa Chitwa signs.
Much of this road has been tarred recently and is in a very good condition. It will eventually become a dirt road, 32.8km after you turned left at Acornhoek.
Continue on this dirt road until you get to Hluvukani.
At Hluvukani you will see the BP Garage on your right.
Continue straight.
Just outside Hluvukani, the road will fork; keep to the right and continue for about 7.8km
until you reach a T-Junction.
Turn left at this T-Junction.
You will pass the villages of Utah and Dixie. From the Utah Trading Store, which is on your right, it is about 5.2km until you reach the Gowrie Gate entrance to the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.
Here you will be required to pay an entrance fee of approx. R80.00 per vehicle.
Please note the Gowrie Gate is only open between 5:00am (05h00) & 11:00pm (23h00).
Turn immediately right at the Gowrie Gate, and follow the fence line to the Lodge.
Simbambili is approximately 7km from Gowrie Gate.
