Tour Details

Day 1:

On arrival at Johannesburg International Airport please make your way to the Car Rental Counter where you can collect your Rental Car. Drive to the Dullstroom area where you overnight at a luxurious hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. Situated on 1500 acre Highland Estate, this hotel exudes atmosphere and warmth. All bedrooms have lake views and afford the guest every comfort. Excellent cuisine is a speciality of the house. The estate offers beautiful forest and river walks as well as walking trails into the nature reserve. Overnight on a Bed & Breakfast basis.
Day 2:

Depart Dullstroom, travel east via Lydenburg and Robbers Pass towards Pilgrims Rest. Your hotel is a charming national monument situated in this historic gold town. Stay in elegant bedrooms with Victorian en-suite bathrooms. The hotel features a bar and a fine restaurant where you will be enjoying a magnificent dinner. The historical town of Pilgrims Rest was declared a living museum in 1976 to preserve the history of gold mining in the Mpumalanga Lowveld. A visit to this town is truly a step back into those glorious days with the many and varied characters who have shaped this area. Stay overnight on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
Day 3:

Travel via the Panorama Route and view various sights such as the Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes. After these spectacular sights you make your way south towards the Sabi Sand Reserve where you overnight for the next 2 nights. The Sabi Sands area is so diverse in its habitat and wildlife that you have an excellent chance of experiencing close encounters with the 'Big 5' - elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard - as well as six species of cat; twenty species of antelope, several dog-like species including spotted hyena, cape hunting dog, two species of jackal, and a variety of smaller mammals such as genet, squirrel, mongoose, civet, honey badger, porcupine and hare. Stay overnight at a private game lodge on a fully inclusive basis.
Day 4:

Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to see most of the large mammals, so today you will enjoy an early morning game drive as well as a late afternoon/evening game drive. Animals, which are mostly seen in the early morning include rhino, lion, leopard, and giraffe. Lions are very active in the early morning and this is when you may see a pride on a kill or moving around with their young. As the day wears on, the animals usually retire to the shade of a tree or bush and may spend the best part of the day sleeping, only to emerge in the late afternoon or evening. Night time is when the large carnivores - except wild dogs and cheetahs - do their hunting, and if you’re lucky you may stumble on a kill.
Day 5:

After an early morning game drive followed by breakfast, depart Sabi Sands and head south towards Swaziland where you will stay for the next 2 nights. Filled with forests, bushveld and waterways, the Swazi nation is proud of their kingdom. Craft shelters dot the sides of the road where artists sell their wooden carvings and paintings. Stay overnight on a bed and breakfast basis.
Day 6:

Spend the full day at leisure exploring the Kingdom of Swaziland, visiting the Royal Ezulwini Valley where most monuments, museums, crafts and culture are to be found. At Mbabane visit the famous Ngwenya glass factory, which uses only recycled glass to create enchanting interpretations of the animals and birds of Africa as well as a unique range of tableware and vases. Alternatively, look for the famous Swazi candles and browse through the local handicrafts markets.
Day 7:

Travel further south through Swaziland and along the Lebombo Mountains before re-entering South Africa at the Lavumisa border post. You now find yourselves in KwaZulu Natal – a province rich with ecological gems, lagoons, sand forests, and thick vegetation that is a paradise to a variety of animals. Make your way to the Phinda Private Game Reserve in the Zululand area where you overnight for the next 2 nights. Your Lodge is a sophisticated harmony of avant-garde and ethnic décor, superb cuisine and warm, personalised service. Spacious split-level suites with private lounges and en-suite bathrooms all open onto your private deck overlooking this magnificent reserve from your lofty retreat.
Day 8:

Today is at leisure to enjoy the activities provided by the lodge. Discover the real Africa in the unspoilt wilderness of Zululand, where you will find some of Africa's oldest parks, pristine wetlands and sand forests, as well as a few of the ecosystems in the area. Enjoy walking with animals and open vehicle game drives where you can spot the big five and an overwhelming profusion of bird life.
Day 9:

After an early morning game drive followed by a hearty breakfast, continue your trip south towards Durban. Return your rental car to the Car Rental Depot situated at Durban International Airport.
